This morning I went to Evan's room to wake and dress him. I had his clothes for the day in my hands. I choose a new pair of long pants and long sleeved shirt since Shane had told me it was 50 degrees outside.
I tried to wake Evan. He wasn't budging, so I begin to dress him in bed. He woke enough to see that his baby brother was wearing Evan's old Auburn outfit. Then Evan began whining, "I want my Auburn pants!" I told him we didn't have Auburn pants that would fit him. Oh course, he was wiggling out of his clothes and continued to insist on wearing Auburn pants. I told him we didn't have Auburn pants, but we could buy him a pair.
Then he started saying he wanted to wear shorts and didn't like the pants. It was at that moment that I said, "You are just going to have to wear what you don't want to wear." Evan didn't like that response. Then I said, "Today is 'wear what you don't want to wear day'." He just looked at me like, "really". And finally stopped whining.
I proceeded to tell him that once a week we were going to have a "wear what you don't want to wear day".
Of course, when we showed up at school all of his friends were wearing shorts.
Later, walking into work I thought that sometimes we all get stuck wearing clothes we'd prefer not to. I laughed and thought that even adults have official "Wear the Clothes You Don't Want to Wear Day"!
